Out My Mind, Just In Time

It’s just over a month until Erykah Badu performs at the O2 Academy in Brixton.

I fell in love with Badu much later than most. The first two albums completely passed me and it was the inclusion of ‘I Want You‘ on a Phil Charnock mix CD that introduced me to her music. Erykah is, for me, the greatest living soul artist and has inspired in countless ways. Her albums have been the sound track to the last eight years of my life. Her wisdom has influenced the decisions I’ve made, the books I’ve read and the music I’ve bought.

For years I spoke about how a dream collaboration would be Badu over Madlib beats, and it came to be on my favourite of Erykah’s albums, New Amerykah: Part One (4th World War). And then when I first picked up the Reset EP and heard ‘Tea Leaf Dancers‘, a Flying Badu collaboration was my new musical fantasy. Well according to their Twitter feeds, it’s in the making so maybe we’ll be lucky enough to hear a preview in London next month.

In the meantime, check out this new video directed by Erykah and produced by Creative Control:
